The first Freestone County Historical Survey Committee was appointed by Freestone County Judge Leslie Bonner and had its first meeting on Jan. 19, 1963, Historical Preservation Day. Members elected for a two year term were Mrs. C. E. Childs, chairman; Ralph Massey, vice-chairman; Mrs. George Stubbs, secretary; E. D. Deffenbaugh and A. Don Emmons.
